Season Sentiment

Season 1 is the most positive season of The Office, while season 9 is the most negative.

Sentiment tells us how positive or negative a line of text is. Taking in all the dialogue from the series, I was able to apply a polarity score to determine which are the most/least positive seasons & characters in The Office.

A perfect positive sentiment is a score of 1, perfect neutral is 0 and perfect negative is -1.

While overall the seasons of this series were positive, they are not positive by much, with the most positive season of the series coming in at only 0.114. But his makes sense as this is a show that depicts office life, a place many people would rather not be.

Character Sentiment

TMichael is the most positive character across all seasons of The Office, while Stanley is the most negative.

Rounding out the top spots in polarity are Jim, Ryan, Pam and surprisingly, Toby. It is interesting to see such a much maligned character managing to stay positive compared to his collegues.

Bringing up the rear along with Stanley are Phyllis, Kelly, Angela and Meredith. Given their personalities in the series, none of these are a surrise.
